Student resorts to eating dry dog food amid cost of living crisis

A student says he feels like he was left with no choice but to eat dry dog food to save money amid the cost of living crisis. Posting on Reddit, he says he hides the packets after eating them after his flatmates began questioning why he had dog food when he doesn’t have a pet.

In a post on the website he said: “Since I’m broke, I have resorted to eating dog food. I only eat the dry dog food, I have never tried the wet ones.”

He said: “When one of my other friends visited my room and saw heaps of dog food, he asked me why. I told him it’s for me and he just said ‘what the f***”, Birmingham Live reports.

As well as shocking Redditors, some warned whether it was healthy for him to be consuming it. Healthline also warn: “Dog food isn’t designed for the unique nutrition needs of humans, though it is made from ingredients that are technically safe for humans to eat.

“Thus, it’s not inherently toxic for humans and may be safe in an emergency situation. However, eating dog food may increase your risk of developing foodborne illness.” Redditors rushed to reply with their concerned responses after the Reddit thread picked up steam.

There were dozens of replies from fellow web users. Some questioned how it could be cost effective, while others raised fears for the man’s health.
