After a long hiatus, Ranbir Kapoor has finally returned to the limelight with his upcoming film Shamshera. The action-adventure-drama has Kapoor playing a double role as both the son and the father.

He’s usually one to shy away from revealing his body too much, but now, Ranbir Kapoor seems to be quite proud of the efforts put into getting this physique. In fact, he’s more than willing to show off the rewards of his hard work these days. 

A six-pack has become the gold standard that most Indian men chase as part of their fitness goals. But it’s often the toughest feature to attain, largely because your diet dictates the results you get.

1. Clean Eating 

As the classic adage goes, “Abs are made in the kitchen”. They truly are. The abs are a group of muscles that are notoriously shy to be seen underneath a layer of fat. You can do all the movements and workouts to strengthen your core, but if you’re not on top of your diet, then you’re headed towards disappointment.

2. Calorie Deficit

If you want to get your abs to show then you need to eat at a caloric deficit. Which is consuming less than the amount of energy your body consumes in a day. This encourages your body to dip into those fat reserves (your love handles and visceral fats) for energy purposes.

3. Understand Your Body

Everyone’s body is different, and therefore everyone’s requirements are different. Now 39 years old, Ranbir Kapoor had spoken to his trainer Shivoham about the need to understand your own body. “As I’m getting older, you know, losing fat gets a little tougher. I think my trainer has really helped me understand my body better in terms of diet and fitness”, he said.

4. Strength Training

Weight lifting and functional training can be an effective way of challenging your abs, and providing them with the variation it needs. Furthermore, movements like overhead squats and medicine ball slams are a cheat code to better coordinated and shredded abs. Regarding his training  Ranbir had said, “It’s really been quite a lifestyle change for me in terms of fitness and inculcating functional training, mixing with weights, doing a lot of ring work, German volume. Understanding diet better.”

5. Don’t Overtrain

One of the easiest mistakes to make while working towards washboard abs is doing hundreds of crunches in a bid to melt down the fat. Firstly, that’s not how fat loss works; spot reduction is a myth. Our core muscles are highly susceptible to overtraining, so ensure you’re giving yourself enough time to recover.

6. Mix It Up

Ranbir mixes up his workouts to ensure he’s constantly testing his body. He had said, “The workouts are never boring, otherwise gym is such a boring place to be at. And now, just coming to the gym and improvising with different kinds of workouts, I think that’s really awesome.”
